New York Jets Quarterback Zach Wilson was benched again Thursday night for the second time in his last three starts as the The Jets lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars 19-3.
Wilson played absolutely abysmal for the Jets, throwing 9-18 for 92 yards and an interception before being benched for fourth QB Chris Streveler, who was promoted from the practice squad hours before the start of the game.
Social media fans who must have suffered from Wilson’s performance wasted no time in calling his second QB’s career death game in New York.

Due to his inability to throw the ball, the Jets were also unable to start the running game
“We just saw the end of Zach Wilson’s career in New York,” said one fan.
“I think the ZachWilson era is over…I have to produce,” said another. A different, but equally frustrated fan said, “Zach Wilson is a really bad quarterback, huh.”
And Wilson admitted after the game that he understood why the fans were so annoyed.
“I just felt like I had no rhythm,” said the 23-year-old. “I was just trying to find some confidence on the pitch and trying to find something to take us forward, a little spark, but I didn’t get anything there man.
“I had opportunities. We will go back and watch it. Right now the feeling is that I have to put my head down and get better.
Jets head coach Robert Saleh, meanwhile, told reporters the reason they switched to Streveler was “more to start the running game.”
Calls for Wilson’s demise weren’t limited to fans who called for him to sit out as a Jets forward and booed louder and louder at MetLife. They were also from members of the media watching.
It’s not even part of the bit anymore. I sincerely think they need to put Chris Streveler in now,’ said Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletics.
Rosenblatt also said at some point before the bench, “It’s not even part of the bit anymore. I honestly think they need to put Chris Streveler on now.
“I’d be pretty surprised if Saleh doesn’t make a QB change coming out of halftime,” SNY’s Connor Rogers said.

Members of the media watching and covering the game also called for Wilson’s head during the game

Andrew Whitworth, a member of the NFL Thursday Night Football team, said after the game that he didn’t see how the Jets could start playing Wilson again this year.
The Thursday Night Football Show’s post-game crew also appeared to put a fork in Wilson’s chances of starting again any time soon, after Hall of Fame tight end Tony Gonzales asked if it was time to ditch Wilson.
“You look, I mean, how do you get back from here,” said former all-pro Andrew Whitworth.
“A few weeks ago you fired it, you can justify Mike White. You pull it today for a guy you raised [the] training team. I don’t know how you are doing right now.
As mentioned, Wilson was initially benched after struggling a lot against the New England Patriots while only rushing for 77 yards in the entire game.
Along with the atrocious performance against New England, Wilson struggled to be productive in the other seven games he started this season, often letting the team’s outstanding defense carry the load in games.

Strevler (left) and Mike White (R) both performed better than Wilson in relieving him
Wilson also didn’t take any responsibility for the Patriots’ offensive tinkering, which reportedly rubbed several of his teammates the wrong way and contributed heavily to his bench.
Although Wilson has won five of the eight games he’s started this season, he’s only averaged 287 yards and 21 points per game, not counting the abomination of a Thursday performance.
Mike White, on the other hand, went just 1-2 in the three games he started, but the offense averaged a much more productive 420 yards and albeit 22 points per game.
After switching to Streveler, the Jets offense seemed to come to life for the first time all night as he led the team in rushing and finished just two yards short of Wilson.

Along with kicking off the passing game, Streveler also led the team in rushing yards
Streveler finished the night throwing for 10-15, 90 yards and a 72.1 QBR, to go with 54 rushing yards on nine carries, in just about a quarter and a half football.
Wilson’s lesson in how not to execute an offense properly ended with a 9-18 throw, 92 yards, an interception and a 5.2 QBR, after starting the game and lasting until the third quarter game.
Even Jets great Darrelle Revis took to Twitter to comment on Wilsons disappearance saying that Zach Wilson had lost the trust of the Jet fanbase.
“I’m not saying it’s impossible. It will be very difficult to regain their trust. I witnessed those same boos when Brett Farve was under center.
One thing is certain. If fans and members of the media are successful, Wilson will be shipped out of New York on the next available jet – much like Farve had to end his time in New York after his temporary retirement.
