One hundred and two children from 38 families in Grundy County benefited this year from the Trenton Kiwanis Club and KTTN’s Christmas Wish Project.

Kiwanis club member and project coordinator Kara Helmandollar says this is about average for the number of families helped, as there were about 40 families last year. Every family that signed up this year was helped. Each child is usually given a minimum of two gifts and about 200 gifts have been given this year.

Helmandollar says the Christmas Wish Project has gone “remarkably well” this year.

The last gifts were delivered on Dec. 22, and Helmandollar said community members have been “extremely generous” this year. Donations can be money or toys.

Helmandollar said there is a small handover to get the project started next year.

Sponsors helped ensure the children of Grundy County had a good Christmas. Trenton Hy-Vee donated for treat bags to be handed out with gifts. North Central Missouri College Athletics and Wright Memorial Physicians Group sponsored a toy drive, which helped “hugely”. The Marines Toys for Tots program also donated toys.

The Christmas Wish Project was started in 1986 by KTTN and the Trenton Kiwanis Club assisted with the project which began in 1990.
