The Otero County community has provided so much food that we are adding more people to those we are feeding. Our volunteers are bringing food to the guards at the Otero County Detention Center and we just called Holloman AFB and we are taking about 15 people food to security forces and the command post.

And when it’s all over, we still bring food to the women’s shelter, COPE, and to the emergency room.

We estimate that we will have fed about 110 people.

As a quick idea, we had 4 turkeys, 4 hams, 3 breasts, enchiladas, tamales, lasagna, green chili mac & cheese and much more. The side dishes were out of this world with all the standard Christmas dinner toppings, and as you’ll see from the pictures the dessert table was brilliant.

In addition to the food brought by local citizens, I would like to thank a few local businesses who also stepped up.

Walmart gave us a 100 piece fried chicken dinner

McGinn’s PistachioLand gave us a case of their nuts

Dominoes Pizza planted in 4 pies so we can have a wide variety of flavors

And Lowe’s Signature Market gave us a $50 gift card which we used to get our sodas and water.

Additionally, I would like to thank the following people for helping to spread the word:

Michael Shinnabery’s show on KRSY

Bob Flotte and Mike Durler at KHII Live and Local News

Chris Edwards of Alamogordo Town News.

And I almost forgot, we also had a team of about 20 volunteers, from set up to cleanup, which made it easy for us.

People, Deacon Jim and I are touched by the outpouring of support for our local heroes. They are the people who protect and are ready at all times to come and help us when things get scary. For us, it’s the smallest thing we can do to thank them for being there for us.

Of course, each of them thanked us for this dinner and they want to thank you warmly for your support.

In the end, this night only works thanks to you! Thanksgiving weekend, I post the 1st FB post asking for donations, and depending on the response, I’ll post a few more requests throughout the month. Then we go to the radio stations listed above and get an article in the online news. Every year, and twice this year, local citizens step up and supply a single item from our menu. By each of you each doing a little part, that’s what happens.

So thank you Otero County! You guys knocked it out of the park. And remember we’ll be back next year, look for my post right after Thanksgiving.

May you all have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! May you all get everything you need and some of what you want.

God bless our first responders and military. May his grace be upon all of Otero County, and of course, God bless America!

AlamogordoConservativeDaily.org asked the organizers for a statement on the success of the event

“Deacon Jim and I are completely blown away by the influx of donations and volunteers for last night’s dinner. We fed the APD, AFD, Sheriff’s Department (including Chaparral’s deputies), the two Border Patrol checkpoints, the AMR Ambulance Service, our State Police, and we had more than enough to also feed officers at the Otero County Detention Center, and security forces at Holloman AFB. And like we do every year, we split the leftovers in half and fed people in the ER and COPE Women’s Shelter. We estimate we fed about 110 people.

It was our most successful year yet, but we are already thinking about how to top it next year. If you’re interested in helping out next time, “like” the Otero Fire/EMS appreciation on the page. I will post next year’s donation request on this page on Thanksgiving weekend. Hope we see you then!”

From AlamogordoConservativeNews.org you to the organizers and thank you to everyone who serves us daily! It’s Christmas in Alamogordo, it’s the community spirit that we love.
