If there’s one thing we’ve learned from the launch of the iPhone 14it’s that Apple is creating more space between regular iPhones and the Pro line.
As you will see in our iPhone 14 vs. iPhone 14 Pro In comparison, the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max have many features that standard iPhones lack. We’re talking about everything from the dynamic island and always-on display to the new 48MP main camera on the iPhone 14 Pro.
I tell you right away that the iPhone 15 going to have to be a lot more “Pro” for people to care about – and for it to not feel like a consolation prize. Here are 5 updates that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus should stand out from.
USB-C
The good news is that Apple is reportedly offering USB-C across the entire iPhone 15 series lineup, as it has to comply with a EU rule making charging standard mandatory by end of 2024. Apple has already said it goes USB-C, even if the exact schedule was not communicated to him. Our money is on the iPhone 15 series in 2023.
There is a wrinkle, however. the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max/Ultra are designed to deliver faster transfer speeds than the regular iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus. As long as they all offer faster charging speeds – an area where Apple has lagged behind Android phones – I’ll be happy.
Faster refresh rate (seriously)
Yes, I know Apple calls its ProMotion panel on the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro Max, but that doesn’t mean iPhone 15 owners should live with a slower refresh panel. I’m sorry, but in 2023 the 60Hz phone display found on the standard iPhone isn’t going to cut it.
I’m sorry, but in 2023 a 60Hz phone screen won’t be enough.
The iPhone 15 could find a middle ground and offer a 90Hz display, which would allow for smoother scrolling and animations. Damn, the Pixel 7 sports a 90Hz display for just $599, which is $200 less than the iPhone 14. Or Apple could offer a 120Hz panel that isn’t dynamic, where it can’t go down to 1Hz. But I doubt that will happen.
Telephoto zoom
Before you dismiss this idea as too pro, please hear me out. iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Ultra are tips for upgrading to a new one periscope zoom camera, which could offer optical zoom in the 5x to 6x range. This would allow Pro phones to close the gap with the Pixel 7 Pro and Galaxy S23 Ultra.
So where would that leave the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus? I would love for Apple to carry over the telephoto zoom from the current iPhone 14 Pro to the iPhone 15 lineup, so you’ll get 3x optical zoom and 15x digital zoom.
The regular Galaxy S22 packs a telephoto lens for $799 with 3x zoom and 30x digital zoom. So why can’t the iPhone 15? Even if that doesn’t happen, it’s good that the iPhone 15 rumored to have same 48MP main sensor (opens in a new tab) like the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max.
dynamic island
Here is a rumor that could very well come true. The regular The iPhone 15 should feature the same dynamic island (opens in a new tab) like the iPhone 14 Pro series. This notch replacement provides real-time alerts and live activities on the fly, which is pretty smart. And Apple has opened this feature up to developers, so you can get things like sports scores on the go.
I’m quite confident dynamic island will carry over to the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus so that Apple can make the most of this feature and more developers get involved in optimizing their apps to take full advantage of it.
Longer battery life
After test all four iPhone 14 models for battery life (opens in a new tab) , it was clear that the regular iPhone 14 brought up the rear. It lasted a decent but not great 9 hours and 28 minutes. This beat the Galaxy S22 (8:02) and Pixel 7 (7:14), but the iPhone 14 Pro ran a longer 10:13.
Assuming the iPhone 15 gets the A16 Bionic chip from the iPhone 14 Pro series, it should be able to last longer on a charge. The iPhone 14 Plus lasted a very good 11:57, but that was still far behind the iPhone 14 Pro Max, which lasted 1:39 and made our better phone battery life list.
